Coco Chanel (1883- 1971)

 ·      Chanel was put into an orphanage during her childhood, where she first learned how to sew
·     Her first store was in Paris’s Rue Cambon in 1910, where she first started selling hats. Then, she began making clothes
·      1920 Chanel launches Chanel No. 5 perfume
·      1925- Chanel launches a woman’s suit with a collarless jacket and fitted skirt. It was revolutionary for the time because the 1920s was first when women started to work and become more “manly”. This suit was for women, who started leaving the corset and dress look behind.
·      In the 20s she also introduces the little black dress. Chanel shows how chic this color really could be
·      The 30s depression and World War II led Chanel to close her business
·      At age 70, she made a comeback to the fashion industry
·      After she died, Karl Lagerfeld took over the company to continue the Legacy of her fashion. Each year, they sell hundred of purchases
·      She is know for the simple, feminine, classic style

Audrey Hepburn (1929- 1993)

·      Audrey was an actress, fashion icon, and humanitarian

·      She was born in Belgium in 1929

·      Some of her roles include: Broadway play Gigi / Roman Holiday/ Ondine/ Charade/ Breakfast at Tiffany’s/ My fair Lady

·      Audrey worked closely with UNICEF and she was a UNICEF goodwill ambassador

·     She also worked in third world countries such as Africa and South America. 

·      Givenchy frequently designed for her

·      Known as a model, singer, and actress 


  ·      As a teenager, she became the world’s first international supermodel and fashion icon of the 60s and 70s

·      She changed her name to “Twiggy” in her early career 


  ·      Twiggy was known for her boyish figure, very thin, and huge eyes 

·      Started the “trend” of super thin models…the fashion world has never gone back, they still use models who are way too frail and thin
